Michigan Man Arrested for Alleged Death Threats Against FBI Director Kash Patel

Federal authorities have arrested a 42-year-old Michigan man, Anthony Daniel Palazzolo, for allegedly issuing death threats targeting FBI Director Kash Patel and an unnamed associate. Palazzolo, a resident of Chesterfield Township, was taken into custody on October 30 following allegations detailed in a criminal complaint.

Court documents indicate Palazzolo sent a Facebook message in early October to an associate, claiming he had "put a hit out" on them. He then allegedly directed threats toward Patel, referring to him with expletives and stating he was "a dead mf too." Palazzolo reportedly admitted to sending the messages during an interrogation in October and apologized, claiming he had "no intent to harm anyone."

However, the communications also included threats of confronting agents, vowing to "use deadly force against every single one of you government officials" if he went to the FBI office. Palazzolo is also accused of sending messages containing explicit threats to the Secret Service, the Supreme Court, and a Texas court.

Palazzolo appeared in Detroit federal court on October 30, facing a felony charge of transmitting threatening interstate communications, which carries a potential sentence of up to five years in federal prison. He is currently detained pending a hearing scheduled for November 2. His lawyer declined to comment.

The FBI noted that Palazzolo has a criminal record in Michigan, Texas, and Florida, including prior charges for falsely reporting a terrorist threat and making a fake bomb threat.

This arrest occurs amid a rise in federal criminal cases involving threats against politicians and public officials. Data shows over 850 such cases have been prosecuted nationwide since 2013, with the previous year marking an all-time high of 133 cases. Authorities are reportedly on track to exceed that record this year.

This is not the first time threats have been directed at individuals close to Patel. Earlier this year, a Massachusetts man was arrested for allegedly sending threatening emails to Patel's girlfriend, Alex Wilkins, containing violent imagery.
