A man identified as Kristopher Karolkiewicz, 47, killed his wife, Amanda Karolkiewicz, 39, and their six children before dying by suicide in a Grand Haven Township, Michigan, home. Authorities also said Karolkiewicz intentionally set the residence ablaze after the shootings.

The Ottawa County Sheriff's Office identified the children as four boys aged 15, 12, 11, and 5, and two 11-year-old girls. Two of the children were adopted. All eight victims sustained gunshot wounds. Family pets also perished in the fire.

First responders were initially alerted to the incident between 8:30 a.m. and 9 a.m. on Friday by reports of smoke. However, they were unable to locate a fire at that time. Later, around 11:45 a.m., officials returned to the 14900 block of Riverside Trail after receiving new reports of white smoke emanating from the home. Dispatch audio from the scene described the residence as "full of smoke."

Amanda Karolkiewicz had recently returned from a trip to China with her two adopted daughters days before the incident. Her social media indicated the trip was a highlight for her, though a Reddit account believed to belong to her suggested marital difficulties, including infidelity by her husband.

In posts on the "AsOneAfterInfidelity" subreddit, Amanda Karolkiewicz reportedly wrote about enduring infidelity and the challenges of leaving her husband, citing their six children as a major factor in her hesitating to separate. She also alluded to her husband having "major red flags" that she overlooked due to her own trauma and attachment style.

Kristopher Karolkiewicz was employed by the American Heart Association as a national vice president of sales and marketing from September 2023 until his employment ended in July 2026, according to a spokesperson for the organization. The association expressed devastation over the news.

The investigation into the cause and origin of the fire is ongoing, with preliminary findings indicating it was intentionally set in multiple locations within the home. Authorities have stated there are no additional suspects.
