Michele Tafoya Addresses Arch Manning, Steve Sarkisian Interview Incident

Michele Tafoya, the Republican nominee for the U.S. Senate in Minnesota and former NBC lead NFL sideline reporter, has offered her perspective on a recent incident involving ESPN sideline reporter Holly Rowe, Texas coach Steve Sarkisian, and quarterback Arch Manning. The situation arose after Sarkisian gave Rowe a brief response following Texas' comeback victory over Ohio State, which left Rowe visibly displeasement.

Tafoya stated that "two things can be true at once" in such situations, criticizing the tendency to adopt extreme viewpoints in public discourse. She acknowledged that Rowe was placed in a difficult position and suggested that coaches who benefit financially from television appearances have a certain obligation to media personnel.

"I think Holly was put in a difficult position. I wasn't super happy with the way that, as you said, when a coach is getting that kind of money because of television — and don't let anyone tell you differently, because television and all of the things that come with it — you do have a certain obligation," Tafoya said.

She speculated that Sarkisian might have believed his curt response was sufficient, drawing a parallel to Marshawn Lynch's famously brief interviews. "Maybe he thought he was checking the box. I'm sure it was frustrating for her. You're in this situation, the game is amazing, and all you want to do is get that phenomenal interview and just get into it with the coach or the player. And both he and Arch — Arch, I should say — cut their interviews a little short."

Tafoya also addressed the AI-generated images that circulated afterward, one of which depicted Sarkisian appearing to strike Rowe. Tafoya firmly stated, "The AI images that came out afterward? The one that I did see made it look like Sarkisian was hitting her. No one should be laughing at that. You can't laugh at a man striking a woman."

Recalling a similar encounter from her own experience, Tafoya mentioned an instance with Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert and ESPN reporter Laura Rutledge. Herbert had initially resisted an interview to celebrate with his teammates, a situation Tafoya felt was a matter of professionalism.

"I kind of looked at the PR director like, 'Does he not understand that this is part of the deal here?' So I understand, Justin, that you want to celebrate with your teammates. But this is a profession that you're in. And be a professional," she explained.

Tafoya's remarks were made during a recent conversation with OutKick, where she discussed her transition from sports broadcasting to politics, her views on the state of the country, and her advice for young Americans.
