Michael Usher's Son Reprimanded for Live On-Air Question About Samantha Armytage Romance
Veteran newsreader Michael Usher reportedly admonished his son after the intern questioned former flame Samantha Armytage about their past relationship during a live broadcast.
Michael Usher reportedly expressed displeasure with his son after the young intern inquired about his past romance with television personality Samantha Armytage during a live on-air interview. The incident occurred when Armytage appeared on "Kyle Sandilands Live" to promote a new project.
During the program, Usher's son, who was interning on the show, directly asked Armytage about rumors of a past relationship with Michael Usher. This unexpected question prompted Armytage to confirm that she and Michael Usher had indeed been on several dates. Kyle Sandilands, the show's host, revealed Usher's reported reaction on Armytage's own interview series, "Act Two."
"I believe he got blasted by the said gentleman," Sandilands stated, referring to Michael Usher's alleged reaction to his son's on-air inquiry. Sandilands mentioned that the intern revealed a "different side to him" during the exchange.
Armytage acknowledged the awkwardness of the situation, joking that Sandilands had "thrown her under the bus" during their previous interaction. Sandilands, however, maintained that he was unaware the question about Armytage's dating history would be raised and likened the situation to an "amazing footballer" catching a ball and running with it.
Romance speculation between Samantha Armytage and Michael Usher first emerged around 2015, with reports suggesting Natalie Barr played a role in their introduction. The rumors resurfaced in 2017. Armytage later married businessman Richard Lavender in 2020, and they separated in 2024.
Armytage has previously spoken about the scrutiny of her personal life, advocating for more substantive questions from journalists. Despite this, during her appearance on Sandilands' show, she found herself fielding personal questions. When Sandilands attempted to steer the conversation toward her dating past, Armytage firmly redirected him, stating, "You don't need to ask questions about who I've dated."
