Michael Sheen has emerged as the unexpected frontrunner to win the latest season of BBC's "The Celebrity Traitors," with the show's premiere slated for Thursday. Bookmakers have placed Sheen at 7/2 odds to emerge victorious, signaling strong confidence in his potential performance on the strategic reality competition.

The upcoming season will feature 21 new celebrity contestants entering a Scottish castle, unaware of whether they will be assigned the role of a 'Traitor' or a 'Faithful.' Their objective is to collaborate and accumulate funds for a shared prize pot, while traitors secretly work to eliminate faithful contestants.

Following Sheen in the odds are actor Richard E. Grant, with odds of 9/2, and "The Last of Us" star Bella Ramsey, positioned at 5/1. Other notable contestants include singer James Blunt and comedian Miranda Hart, who are tied at 11/2 odds.

An spokesperson for ActionNetwork.com commented on Sheen's favored status, noting his acting prowess as a key factor. "Michael Sheen tops the winner odds list at 7/2, and it's easy to see why - as an accomplished actor, he has the range to convincingly play a traitor," they stated, drawing a parallel to Jonathan Ross's role in the previous season.

Richard E. Grant is also seen as a strong contender, described as having "shades of Stephen Fry about him - the wise-figure archetype who went far last time round, equally capable of playing a cunning traitor or being a trusted faithful."

Regarding potential traitors, comedian Romesh Ranganathan is leading the market at 5/2. However, the odds suggest that comedians may face increased scrutiny due to Alan Carr's winning run as a traitor in the previous season.

The previous season's launch episode attracted over six million viewers, and anticipation for the new season is high. Pubs and bars across Britain are preparing for viewing events, with some venues in London hosting ticketed parties and themed nights, encouraging attendees to dress as host Claudia Winkleman.

The BBC has also amplified the show's promotion, including a large mural of Winkleman and the celebrity cast in Manchester's Northern Quarter. Content creators have shared videos showcasing the mural, with influencers noting that crosses will be added to portraits after each elimination, mirroring the show's in-universe events.

A promotional stunt featured the Kantos Chamber Choir performing the show's theme tune, accompanied by masked figures holding memorial flowers with the inscription "RIP VIP."

The full cast includes Jerry Hall, Ross Kemp, Rob Beckett, Sharon Rooney, Joanne McNally, Amol Rajan, King Kenny, Sebastian Croft, Maya Jama, Miranda Hart, Romesh Ranganathan, James Acaster, Bella Ramsey, Leigh-Anne Pinnock, Joe Lycett, Hannah Fry, Julie Hesmondhalgh, and Myha'la.

The debut season of "The Celebrity Traitors" was a significant television event, highlighted by memorable performances such as Alan Carr's victory as a traitor and Celia Imrie's comedic contributions. Millions are expected to tune in for the premiere on Thursday at 8 p.m.
