Michael Palin Cancels Book Tour After Fall, Breaks Ribs
The 'Monty Python' star, 83, announced on Instagram that a bathroom accident has forced him to postpone events for his new book.
Michael Palin, the 83-year-old star of "Monty Python," has canceled his upcoming book tour due to a fall in his home bathroom that resulted in broken ribs and a pelvic fracture. Palin announced the news on Instagram, stating that he slipped while in his family bathroom, an area he has frequented for decades.
"The recovery of bone fractures takes a long time especially when you’re 83," Palin wrote on the social media platform. He described the incident as a "comedy fall with no audience there to see it." Palin also expressed his "sincere apologies to everyone who has already put in a lot of work on the tour" and extended thanks to the National Health Service (NHS) for their care.
The cancellation affects events for his new book, "Michael Palin in the Philippines." The book explores the Southeast Asian country, highlighting its beauty, variety, and paradoxes, from the poverty of Manila's Smokey Mountain to the idyllic beaches of Cadlao Island. The synopsis notes Palin encounters some of the "warmest and friendliest people" during his journey. The book is currently available for pre-order.
Palin, known for his comedic roles in "Monty Python" and films like "A Fish Called Wanda," made light of his situation, quipping that he would "stick to fish slapping dances from now on."
