Michael Forest, a character actor whose career spanned 65 years and included an iconic role as the Greek god Apollo in the original "Star Trek" series, has died. He was 97.
Forest passed away on Wednesday at a senior assisted living facility in Sparks, Nevada, where he had been living in recent years, according to Deadline.
Forest's imposing six-foot-three-inch frame and muscular physique often led to him being cast in heroic and mythical roles. He appeared in several Roger Corman films in the late 1950s and early 1960s, including "The Saga of the Viking Women and Their Voyage to the Waters of the Great Sea Serpent" (1958) and "Atlas" (1961).
His most memorable role for many "Star Trek" fans was as Apollo in the 1967 episode "Who Mourns for Adonais?" He also made appearances on popular television shows such as "The Dick Van Dyke Show" and "The Twilight Zone."
Beyond his television and film work, Forest was also a prolific voice actor, contributing to anime, animated series, and video games throughout his extensive career.
