Michael Forest, Star Trek Actor, Dies at 97

Actor Michael Forest, widely recognized for his portrayal of the Greek god Apollo in the original "Star Trek" series, has died at the age of 97. His death was announced on Friday by his friend, James A. Brown, who shared the news on Facebook.

Forest, born Gerald Michael Charlebois, died on Wednesday. He had recently been residing at MorningStar Senior Living in Sparks, Nevada, according to reports.

His most prominent role was as Apollo in the 1967 "Star Trek" episode "Who Mourns for Adonais?". Forest reprised the character in the fan-produced web series "Star Trek Continues" in 2013.

In a 2012 interview with StarTrek.com, Forest recounted the audition process for the Apollo role. He recalled being asked to read for the producers multiple times and to remove his shirt to demonstrate his physique. He also mentioned an initial request to perform in a British accent, which he declined, offering instead a Mid-Atlantic theater speech, which he believed suited the character.

Forest had an extensive career, with over 200 credits to his name. His other television appearances included roles in "Zorro," "The Twilight Zone," and "Gilligan's Island." He also lent his voice to various projects and appeared in the 2000 film "Cast Away." In 2020, Forest was among numerous "Star Trek" actors featured in the parody film "Unbelievable!!!!!."
