Michael Douglas Recounts Danny DeVito Eating Marijuana Joints During Police Stop

Michael Douglas recounted a story where his friend and collaborator Danny DeVito allegedly consumed multiple marijuana joints when they were pulled over by police for a traffic violation. Douglas, 82, shared the anecdote on Wednesday during an appearance on The Joe Rogan Experience.

According to Douglas, he and DeVito, 81, were driving to a concert with marijuana in their possession when police initiated a traffic stop after Douglas made an illegal left turn. Douglas explained that after he exited the vehicle to speak with the officer, he returned to find DeVito had ingested the marijuana to prevent them from getting into further trouble.

"I remember when I got back into the car - Danny was with me - and we had, you know, a few joints, and Danny was in the back seat," Douglas told Rogan. "And I just looked at him, and said, 'Where's the grass?' And Danny smiled. All his mouth was entirely... green... he swallowed all of them!"

Douglas characterized the incident as one of the "crazy stories" he shares with DeVito, with whom he has a long-standing friendship. The two actors were former roommates in the late 1960s and have collaborated on numerous films, including "Romancing the Stone," "The Jewel of the Nile," and "The War of the Roses."

Douglas's memoir, "One Helluva Ride," was released recently. He noted that DeVito read the book in a single night, a gesture he found "so sweet."

Douglas and DeVito first met in 1967 at the Eugene O’Neill Theater Center in New London, Connecticut. Douglas recalled their initial encounter: "I was on the beach, looking out at the Long Island Sound and this guy walks up to me, with this long head of hair, if you can imagine. He says, 'You get high?'"

Douglas added, "We were both 1967 potheads, so we smoked a joint and that was a beginning of a long, long friendship."
