Michael Douglas Plans Facelift After Strain of Davina McCall's Health Battles
Celebrity hairdresser says he feels he has aged a decade due to wife's recent medical issues and running his business.
Michael Douglas, husband of TV presenter Davina McCall, revealed he plans to undergo a facelift, stating that the strain of his wife's recent health battles has made him feel like he has aged ten years. Douglas, a celebrity hairdresser who is 53, said the pressures of the past few years, combined with managing his business, have visibly impacted his appearance.
"In the last three years, I have aged about ten years, and I can really see it," Douglas said on Amanda Wakeley's Style DNA podcast. He detailed that Davina McCall had a brain tumor and breast cancer, while he has been fully running his business intensely for the past four years. "I can see that it's really taking its toll in my face. It's started to really deteriorate," he added.
Douglas indicated that once the business demands lessen and he and Davina can begin to wind down, he intends to have a lower facelift. He also made a lighthearted comment about the skin around his eyelids, joking, "This is almost like a labia, here. Look at that. So, yeah, we'll probably do a little cut round [the eyelids], and then start to look after my skin a little bit."
His remarks follow a challenging period for Davina McCall. In November 2024, she had surgery to remove a rare but benign brain tumor. The growth was discovered during a health check related to her menopause advocacy. By April 2025, scans confirmed the tumor had been completely removed. McCall described 2025 as "the hardest year of Michael's and my lives."
Following her recovery from the brain tumor, McCall was diagnosed with breast cancer in October 2025 and underwent a lumpectomy. She stated that the cancer was caught early and had not spread to her lymph nodes. She later completed five days of radiotherapy as a precaution. Announcing her diagnosis in November, McCall expressed gratitude to her family and medical team, adding an "extra special thanks to Michael. It's been a lot."
In addition to these health issues, McCall revealed last week that she has cardiovascular disease. The couple married in December, shortly after her cancer surgery.
Douglas explained that he plans a personal makeover after dedicating significant time to supporting others. He mentioned cutting his hair short and adopting a "Paul Weller-mod thing" style to "reclaim myself as an individual person." He feels that he and Davina have "surrendered our lives in the service of others," citing McCall's podcast "Begin Again" and her menopause advocacy as examples of their work helping people.
He suggested that in five to ten years, they might pull back slightly from such intensive efforts to "rediscover ourselves a little bit." This self-makeover, he anticipates, will involve a haircut, a facelift, and a wardrobe revision.
Douglas is already considering professional aesthetic advice, stating, "I genuinely might go and see a plastic surgeon and just say, OK, what do you think? When would be a good time to do something? What should I do if I was gonna do something?"
He compared the idea to clients seeking his advice as a hairdresser, envisioning seeking a "treatment plan" from a professional. He added that if advised to use products like hyaluronic acid, he would readily adopt them.
Despite his four decades in the hair and beauty industry, Douglas admitted to paying little attention to his own skincare regimen. "At the moment, I have no regime," he said. He noted that McCall uses Garnier products, while he tends to use whatever is available, even applying Garnier's Summer Body lotion to his face one morning because he felt he looked "peaky."
