Michael Douglas Gives Rare Update on Jack Nicholson's Whereabouts
The actor says his longtime friend is "well" and has "disappeared" from public life.
Michael Douglas has offered a rare glimpse into the life of his close friend, Jack Nicholson, who has largely withdrawn from public view. Douglas, 82, provided the update while discussing his recently published memoir, "One Helluva Ride," at an event in Swansea, Wales.
Douglas and Nicholson, 89, never shared the screen as actors, but Douglas produced the acclaimed 1975 film "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest," which starred Nicholson. When asked about his friend, Douglas stated, "He's not working any more. He's well. He has disappeared. I know that."
Douglas elaborated that he still sees Nicholson, adding, "He is up there by his house and walking around in his slippers. It happens. He deserves it. I understand. He is a few years older than me, but I understand."
Nicholson, a three-time Oscar winner, has not officially announced his retirement from acting. His last screen appearance was in the 2010 film "How Do You Know." Since then, he has been seen publicly only a few times. In April, his daughter Lorraine shared a photo on social media of Nicholson at home with singer Joni Mitchell. He also made a rare public appearance at the 50th anniversary of "Saturday Night Live" in 2025, introducing his "Anger Management" co-star Adam Sandler. Prior to that, he was seen attending an NBA playoff game in May 2023.
