Actor Michael Douglas, 81, was appointed an Ambassador De Mallorca on Monday, attending the ceremony with his daughter, Carys Douglas, 23. Douglas was honored with the title of Terra d’Honor ambassador for his commitment to Mallorca and his role in promoting the island internationally through culture and heritage conservation.
Douglas, known for his roles in films like "Fatal Attraction," wore a navy blazer and white shirt for the event. Carys, daughter of Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones, wore a black strapless top with matching trousers, accessorized with gold heels and jewelry. The pair appeared together in photographs during the event.
Douglas purchased his S'Estaca villa in Mallorca's Tramuntana mountains in 1989. He has since been involved in cultivating award-winning local wine at the property and has played a role in the cultural life of the nearby town of Valldemossa. He has been described as an informal ambassador for the island, often hosting Hollywood guests at his Mallorcan home.
Carys Douglas recently made her professional stage debut in a New York production of Anton Chekhov's "The Seagull." She played Nina, an aspiring actress, in a limited run at St. Lydia's Theatre in Brooklyn. Her parents, Douglas and Zeta-Jones, were reportedly very proud of her performance. Carys graduated from Brown University with degrees in film and international relations and has expressed interest in the arts.
Both of Carys' parents have extensive careers rooted in the performing arts. Catherine Zeta-Jones won an Oscar for "Chicago" and a Tony Award for "A Little Night Music." Michael Douglas began his acting career in the 1960s after studying at The American Place Theatre in New York City. His father was legendary actor Kirk Douglas, and his mother was actress Diana Dill.
