Michael Douglas Admits Affair With Kathleen Turner in New Memoir

Michael Douglas has confirmed long-standing rumors that he had an affair with his "Romancing the Stone" co-star Kathleen Turner during the filming of the 1984 blockbuster. In his new memoir, "One Helluva Ride," Douglas, now 82, admits that he and Turner, 72, fell into a relationship "hard and fast" during production.

Douglas, who was married to his first wife, Diandra Luker, at the time, described his attraction to Turner as immediate. "Kathleen was smart, funny and sexy, with a deep sultry voice that became her signature," he wrote. "I instantly liked her and we were immediately attracted to each other." He also stated that his marriage to Luker was in a "bad place" and that both he and his wife were "having extramarital affairs."

The affair reportedly grew out of their close working relationship and mutual respect. Douglas recalled sneaking into Turner's hotel room after exhausting days of shooting. The clandestine romance ended when Luker, suspicious, flew to the Mexican set with their young son.

Douglas and Turner had a "gentleman's agreement" to never discuss their relationship publicly, a pact they maintained for four decades. The official narrative was that while they had undeniable chemistry and were tempted, "nothing ever happened between us." Douglas now states this was a lie told to protect his wife and son.

Turner had previously alluded to their close connection and mutual flirtation but maintained that a relationship did not transpire, citing the presence of Douglas's wife on set. However, when asked about Douglas's admission, Turner responded positively, saying, "I love Michael and I look forward to enjoying the book."

The "Romancing the Stone" co-stars initially met as friends before their relationship evolved. Their marriage to Luker eventually ended in divorce in 2000, the same year Douglas married Catherine Zeta-Jones. Turner married real estate mogul Jay Weiss.
