Green Bay Packers star Micah Parsons has voiced strong criticism regarding Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels' actions during a crucial late-game sequence that resulted in a tie against the New York Giants. Parsons suggested that Daniels' decision-making on the final play of overtime "probably cost" Commanders head coach Dan Quinn his job.

"I'm a big Jayden Daniels fan, but the reality is he probably cost a lot of people their jobs this past weekend," Parsons stated on his podcast, "The Edge with Micah Parsons."

During overtime of the Week 5 game, with the score tied at 27 and 50 seconds remaining, the Commanders advanced to the Giants' 24-yard line. The team was criticized for its slow pace in initiating the next play, which consumed 12 seconds. Daniels then scrambled and was tackled with eight seconds left. Crucially, Washington failed to rush to the line of scrimmage to spike the ball and stop the clock, preventing their field goal unit from entering the field and ultimately leading to the 27-27 tie.

Parsons, an injured All-Pro defensive player, emphasized the ingrained nature of clock management in football strategy. "All respectfully, we get coached so much on these situations that I’m a defensive player and this sh–t is programmed to me," he said. "I know what to do in those situations. There’s no way I’m taking a sack with 14 seconds left [and] no timeouts."

He further elaborated, suggesting that Daniels, in his third year and having previous experience in significant games like the NFC Championship, should have managed the situation better. "It would be different if Jayden Daniels was a rookie. This is your third year. You’ve been to the NFC Championship Game, you’ve been in big moments before. And to me, even after you got sacked, you’re casually getting up."

Both Daniels and Quinn have publicly accepted responsibility for the outcome. Following the game, Quinn stated, "Ultimately, it’s on me." Quinn previously served as the Cowboys' defensive coordinator from 2021 to 2023, a period during which Parsons played for Dallas. Quinn took over as the Commanders' head coach in 2024, and the team currently holds a 1-3-1 record this season.
