Actress Mia Farrow, 81, faced criticism from some members of the transgender community on the social media platform BlueSky after she questioned President Donald Trump's focus on transgender issues. Farrow shared a video of Trump speaking about the transgender community and added her own commentary.
"Just 0.95% to 1.0% of the United States population aged 13 and older identifies as transgender. So, what is Trump's obsession with transgender folks?" Farrow posted.
Her use of the phrase "identifies as" quickly drew backlash, with some users labeling it as "TERF language" (Trans-Exclusionary Radical Feminist). Critics argued that the phrasing implies transgender people are not genuinely transgender. "They ARE transgender. Saying they 'identify as' insinuates that they are not really what they are claiming to be," one user responded. Another stated, "We don't 'identify' as trans. We-are-trans."
Some also criticized Farrow for not actively supporting the transgender community, questioning why she wasn't more focused on advocating for their equal rights. "That's 3 million people. Why AREN'T you obsessed with making sure they get equal rights?" one commenter asked.
Farrow, known for her roles in "Rosemary's Baby" and "Peyton Place," has not publicly responded to the criticism. She has continued to post on the platform since the incident. The Daily Mail has contacted Farrow for comment.
