A 28-year-old Mexican national died Tuesday morning after being struck by a tractor-trailer while fleeing U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers on a Florida highway. The incident occurred around 7 a.m. in St. Johns County, Florida.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, ICE agents approached four individuals who were stopped in a gas station parking lot in St. Augustine. One of the individuals, identified as the Mexican national, fled from the agents and ran across State Road 16. He was subsequently struck by an oncoming tractor-trailer.

The driver of the truck attempted to provide medical aid at the scene, but the man could not be saved. Officials have not released the deceased's immigration status, only that he was a Mexican national.

Florida Highway Patrol and Homeland Security Investigations are currently investigating the fatal crash. This incident is one of several recent deaths involving ICE encounters. Last week, a Mexican national was killed in Houston, Texas, after allegedly attempting to run over agents with his vehicle. Separately, a Colombian national was shot and killed by an ICE agent in Maine earlier this week.
