The New York Mets are reportedly disinclined to entertain trade offers for backup catcher Luis Torrens as the trade deadline approaches. Torrens, recognized as one of the premier defensive catchers in baseball, has garnered interest from multiple teams, including the White Sox, who are reportedly seeking a catcher following an injury to Kyle Teel.
The Mets appear to highly value Torrens, particularly given his contract status. He is currently under contract for the following season at $4.75 million, and the team views him as a potential component of their future plans in 2027. This reluctance to trade him suggests a belief in his long-term value and a desire to retain him within the organization.
Elsewhere in trade discussions, the Dodgers are considered well-positioned to acquire Detroit Tigers star Tarik Skubal, should he become available, due to their extensive prospect pool. Despite this, the Dodgers have indicated confidence in the impending returns of pitchers Blake Snell and Shohei Ohtani, and also expect Tyler Glasnow back on the mound soon, suggesting they do not see an immediate need for another top starting pitcher. Nevertheless, rivals remain wary of a potential Dodgers move for Skubal if the opportunity arises.
