Mets Postpone Howie Rose Farewell Ceremony to 2027 Due to Weather

The New York Mets have postponed the farewell ceremony for longtime broadcaster Howie Rose, originally scheduled for Sunday, until Opening Weekend 2027. The decision was made due to rainy weather.

The Mets announced the postponement Sunday morning, stating that while the ceremony is rescheduled, the scheduled 1:10 p.m. game against the Phillies will still proceed. Rose, who is retiring after the current season, has been a significant figure for the organization.

"Howie Rose is more than a broadcaster to this organization. He is a part of the fabric of the New York Mets," Mets president of business operations Lew Sherr said in a statement. "Out of respect for everything he has meant to our fans, we have decided to postpone the ceremony and instead honor him during Opening Weekend 2027. While we are disappointed that inclement weather will prevent us from having our planned ceremony, we want to make sure that we properly celebrate Howie for all that he has done for the Mets."

The Mets' next home series is scheduled for April 2-4 against the Giants, which will mark the team's opening home stand of the 2027 season. The first 15,000 fans attending Sunday's game will still receive a "Put it in the books" notebook and scorecard as originally planned.

Ticket holders for Sunday's postponed ceremony will receive a digital ticket voucher for a comparable seat during a 2027 April-May home game at Citi Field, excluding Opening Day and the Subway Series. \n\nRose, who served as the emcee for Carlos Beltran's number retirement ceremony on Saturday, had treated Saturday's game as a potential final sign-off, as he has not called road games this season. He addressed the fans, saying, "Any one of you could sit where I’m sitting here in this booth because we have very similar backgrounds. I grew up in the upper deck at Shea Stadium, many of you sit in the upper deck here or sat somewhere here or at Shea Stadium. But the point is that I feel like I know you. And more importantly, I feel like you know me." He concluded his remarks with, "just know that I love you all."
