Mets Manager Andy Green Reflects on Player Development Philosophy

Andy Green, now officially the permanent manager of the New York Mets, reflected on his previous tenure and his evolving approach to player management. Since taking over from Carlos Mendoza in late June, Green has emphasized a player development perspective within the Mets dugout. This philosophy aims to uplift players by providing constructive criticism that highlights both their current strengths and potential for growth.
During his introductory press conference on Tuesday, Green acknowledged past interactions with players during his time as manager for the San Diego Padres from 2016 to 2019. He expressed a desire for his current methods to resonate more effectively with players. "I told them the truth," Green stated. "I was never scared of that. I wasn’t scared of the veterans. Wasn’t scared of anybody."
Green’s player-centric approach has reportedly earned him respect from within the clubhouse and the front office, culminating in a three-year contract with the Mets. He hopes his management style will foster greater development and success among the team's core players.
