Mets Evaluate Francisco Álvarez's Future Behind the Plate
A recent analysis questions whether Francisco Álvarez remains the New York Mets' long-term solution at catcher.
The New York Mets are facing questions about the long-term viability of Francisco Álvarez as their primary catcher. Dexter Henry and Tyler Ward, hosts of the Straight Outta Flushing podcast, recently conducted an evaluation of the team's catching situation, focusing on the tandem of Álvarez and Luis Torrens.
Their analysis delved into Álvarez's offensive potential and debated whether Torrens warrants a more significant role in the 2027 season. The discussion also explored potential external options, including free-agent acquisitions and trade targets, weighing the necessary return on investment for any outside addition to the catching corps.
The central question posed by the evaluation is whether the Mets should maintain their current catching duo, increase Torrens's playing time, or pursue a change at the position altogether.
