Mets Dismiss Hitting Coach Jeff Albert and Quality Assurance Coach Danny Barnes
The New York Mets have made further changes to their coaching staff, announcing Tuesday the departure of hitting coach Jeff Albert and quality assurance coach Danny Barnes.
The New York Mets are once again altering their coaching staff, with hitting coach Jeff Albert and quality assurance coach Danny Barnes set to depart at the end of the season, the team announced Tuesday.
A club source indicated that no additional changes to the coaching staff are anticipated. This marks the second significant shake-up of the coaching department in less than a year, following a more extensive overhaul last October.
Albert had been promoted to the major league hitting coach position last offseason. In the preceding season, the Mets finished 20th in MLB in scoring, averaging 4.31 runs per game, and ranked 23rd with a .706 OPS.
Danny Barnes had served on the Mets' coaching staff for five seasons, responsible for relaying analytical data to players. Batting practice pitcher Kevin Mahoney also will not return.
Albert, Barnes, and Mahoney are permitted to explore opportunities with other teams but could potentially return to the organization in different capacities.
Returning coaches include Troy Snitker and Rafael Fernandez, who were hired as hitting coach and assistant hitting coach, respectively, under Albert. Other coaches expected to remain with the team are bench coach Kai Correa, pitching coach Justin Willard, assistant pitching coach Daniel McKinney, first base coach Gilbert Gomez, third base coach Tim Leiper, bullpen coach José Rosado, and catching instructor J.P. Arencibia.
