New York Mets and Yankees fans have demonstrated the most baseball knowledge among Major League Baseball fanbases, according to a recent survey by Casino.ca. Both fanbases tied for first place, correctly answering an average of 18 out of 20 questions on a baseball trivia quiz.

Fans from the New York teams not only scored the highest but also exceeded their own self-assessments of their baseball acumen. Mets fans rated their knowledge at 7 out of 10, while Yankees fans rated theirs at 6 out of 10.

In contrast, fans of the Arizona Diamondbacks and Texas Rangers tied for last place, with an average score of 10 out of 20. Rangers fans notably rated their knowledge at 8 out of 10, despite finishing at the bottom of the survey.

Fan knowledge varied significantly across California teams. Angels fans ranked highest in the state and second overall, with an average score of 17 out of 20 and a self-rating of 8 out of 10. Los Angeles Dodgers fans placed fourth with 15 correct answers.

The San Francisco Giants and San Diego Padres fanbases tied for seventh place with 12 correct answers, with Giants fans scoring the lowest among California teams at 11 out of 20.

The survey, which involved 5,000 fans, also highlighted discrepancies between fan expectations and actual performance. Rangers fans showed the largest gap between their perceived and actual knowledge, while Yankees, Red Sox, and Mets fans were more modest in their self-assessments relative to their quiz scores.

Baseball Trivia Insights

The quiz covered a range of baseball history and rules, including identifying Don Larsen as the only pitcher with a perfect game in World Series history and recalling that MLB introduced interleague play in 1997. It also tested knowledge on the Cleveland Indians (now Guardians) being the first American League franchise to integrate, and Frank Robinson being the first player to win MVP in both leagues. Rules regarding balks, dropped third strikes, and the possibility of four outs in an inning were also part of the assessment.
