MetLife Stadium Traffic Among NFL's Worst, Study Finds

MetLife Stadium, shared by the New York Giants and New York Jets, has been identified as one of the most congested NFL stadiums on game days, according to a recent study by Betpack. The stadium ranked sixth overall for traffic congestion, receiving a score of 72.4 out of 100.

The study evaluated gridlock data within a one-kilometer radius of all 30 NFL stadiums, using metrics such as congestion level, average speed, and travel time per 6.2 miles to calculate an overall Congestion Score. On game days at MetLife Stadium, congestion increases by 212.7% above baseline traffic levels, with average speeds dropping to approximately 13.4 mph. This results in an average travel time of 27.7 minutes to cover six miles of surrounding traffic.

This finding is consistent with previous analyses. A Fall 2025 ranking by Pickswise also highlighted MetLife Stadium's traffic issues, positioning it as the second-worst stadium for game-day traffic with a score of 30.3 out of 100. That study noted that East Rutherford experienced the longest peak travel times, with fans taking nearly 39 minutes to drive just 10 kilometers.

Nissan Stadium, home to the Tennessee Titans, was found to have the worst overall traffic score in the Betpack study, with a six-mile journey taking 60.5 minutes. The top five most congested stadiums, in addition to MetLife, included Soldier Field (Chicago Bears), Empower Field at Mile High (Denver Broncos), Huntington Bank Field (Cleveland Browns), and Bank of America Stadium (Carolina Panthers).

Fans have shared their frustrations with the stadium's accessibility. One TripAdvisor reviewer described MetLife as the "worst to get in or out of" and noted "awful and disorganized" parking. Another attendee, who experienced traffic after a soccer match between Barcelona and Real Madrid, reported a 1.5-hour delay to travel less than a mile from the parking lot to the highway.

The traffic issues extend beyond NFL games, impacting attendees of other major events. For the FIFA World Cup 2026, fans and event-goers were advised to utilize public transit options like NJ Transit due to severe delays.

Conversely, Arrowhead Stadium, home of the Kansas City Chiefs, was identified as the NFL stadium with the least congestion, achieving the lowest overall traffic score of 2.0 out of 100. As both New York football teams begin the 2026 season with promising starts, the traffic congestion around MetLife Stadium may become an even more significant concern for attendees.
