Meta Plans $95 Billion AI Investment, Funding Through Stock Offerings

Meta Platforms is planning a substantial investment of up to $95 billion in its artificial intelligence infrastructure, a move that will be financed through a series of stock offerings. The company aims to begin these offerings as early as next year, according to reports.

The capital for this ambitious AI buildout will be raised through approximately $35 billion in public stock offerings. This includes plans for $22.5 billion in common stock and $12.5 billion in mandatory convertible preferred stock. Additionally, Meta is considering an at-the-market stock offering program of up to $60 billion, which would involve creating a new class of nonvoting stock, referred to as "Class C" stock.

Tech giants are making significant investments in AI, with total projected spending on data centers and related AI infrastructure estimated to reach $10.3 trillion between 2025 and 2032, according to The Wall Street Journal. Meta's AI initiatives, including its AI agent Muse and its Superintelligence Labs, are central to its strategy.

Nvidia, Advanced Micro Devices, and Broadcom have reportedly expressed interest in purchasing up to $5 billion of Meta's common stock as part of the planned offering. These investments underscore the interconnected nature of the AI industry, where major players rely on each other's advancements and infrastructure.

Meta's stock experienced a slight dip of about 1% at the market's opening on Monday but recovered most of those losses later in the trading day. The company's significant AI push has previously raised concerns among investors regarding the substantial capital expenditures required. Meta has reported record third-quarter revenue, but the long-term funding of its AI ambitions remains a key focus for shareholders.

Artificial intelligence is a driving force behind Meta's development of new products, such as AI-enabled smartglasses and its Muse agent. The company has also stated that AI has contributed to increased user engagement and improved advertising performance.
