Met Police Review Handling of Letter Concerning Thomas Markle

The Metropolitan Police have confirmed they received a letter in January 2019 containing allegations against Thomas Markle, the father of the Duchess of Sussex.

The force is now reviewing its handling of the matter. In a statement, a Met police spokesperson said the letter was sent to the Protection Command to raise concerns regarding the security of Meghan Markle.

Following a review of its systems, the police confirmed the letter was received in early 2019 and contained "a number of claims about alleged offending outside the United Kingdom." The decision was made to pass the letter to the office of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex for their awareness, and the details of the allegations were not shared with other law enforcement agencies.

The statement added, "The MPS is reviewing the handling of this matter in 2019 and considering whether a referral to the IOPC is necessary to review our approach."

This confirmation follows Meghan Markle's revelation on Friday that she had been warned about "troubling and disturbing" allegations concerning her father in 2018. She stated that police had shared a letter containing these allegations with her, which influenced her decision to keep her father away from her family.

The Duchess of Sussex expressed her deep distress over the allegations, stating, "My thoughts are with any children who may have been harmed." She added that her choice to distance herself from her father and prevent contact with their children was "for one reason – to protect them."

Meanwhile, Thomas Markle Jr, Meghan's half-brother, has reportedly handed over four boxes of material from their father's former home in the Philippines to the police. According to reports, this material includes images and other items that he claims contain hundreds of alleged child abuse images. Thomas Markle Sr. has vehemently denied these allegations, calling them "sick lies."
