Met Police Received 2019 Letter With Claims About Duchess of Sussex's Father

The Metropolitan Police confirmed on Friday that it received a letter in January 2019 containing "a number of claims" about the Duchess of Sussex's father, Thomas Markle.

Scotland Yard stated that the letter was reviewed and subsequently passed to the office of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex for their awareness. The police force emphasized that the specific details of the allegations within the letter were not shared with any other law enforcement agencies.

The letter was sent to the Metropolitan Police Protection Command to raise concerns regarding the security of the Duchess of Sussex.

The Metropolitan Police is currently reviewing its handling of the matter in 2019 and is considering whether a referral to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) is necessary to examine their approach.

The reports emerged following claims that images of child sexual abuse, allegedly belonging to Markle, 82, were discovered in his former residence in the Philippines. Markle, who resides in the United States, has denied possessing any such images.

The Duchess of Sussex had previously stated that she was made aware of "disturbing allegations" concerning her estranged father in 2018. The claims were initially reported by The Sun newspaper, which later stated the letter included direct allegations of child sex abuse against Markle.
