Met Police Halt Inquiry Into E-Bike Rider Who Injured TV Presenter's Daughter
Investigation into hit-and-run crash in Peckham closed due to lack of information.
The Metropolitan Police have closed their investigation into an e-bike rider who struck and seriously injured Lilla, the 26-year-old daughter of television presenter Nicky Campbell, in Peckham, south-east London, earlier this year. Detectives have shelved the probe, citing a lack of further evidence despite having obtained footage of the incident.
Lilla was out with her sisters in June when the collision occurred. Her father had appealed for public assistance, including the sharing of CCTV footage, to help identify the rider who fled the scene. Despite these efforts, the police stated that extensive inquiries, including reviewing available CCTV and placing a witness board at the location, did not yield information sufficient to locate the e-bike rider.
A spokesperson for the Met Police confirmed that the case has been closed pending the availability of new evidence within the statutory six-month time limit for such incidents. They urged anyone with information who has not yet come forward to contact the police, quoting reference 9571/19JUN.
Nicky Campbell had described the incident on social media, detailing the immediate aftermath where Lilla was taken to hospital and the subsequent distressing experience when a man exposed himself to her and her companions in the A&E waiting room. He commended the police and hospital staff for their handling of both situations.
Lilla Campbell is one of four daughters of Nicky Campbell and his wife Tina Ritchie. The investigation's closure leaves the case unresolved regarding the hit-and-run cyclist.
