Met Police Detective Calls for Commissioner's Resignation After Rape Case

A Metropolitan Police detective, who was raped by a fellow officer, has publicly stated that the force's handling of her case was akin to experiencing the assault again. Detective Constable Linda Williams was attacked in 2004 by PC David Carrick, who was later sentenced to life in prison in 2023 for multiple sexual offenses against Williams and eleven other victims.

Williams sought damages from the Metropolitan Police for failing to protect her from Carrick, describing the subsequent process as leaving her feeling suicidal. She has now called for the resignation of Met Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley, asserting that he has not fulfilled his promise to reform police culture.

Investigations correspondent Daniel De Simone reported on the case, highlighting that Detective Constable Williams has expressed a lack of faith in the system.
