A high-speed chase through Brooklyn ended with a Mercedes crashing into a deli after its driver narrowly missed an NYPD detective. The incident occurred Sunday in Carroll Gardens when a 24-year-old suspect, driving a white Mercedes the wrong way down Henry Street, swerved to avoid a detective.
The luxury vehicle then collided with a black Audi, pushing it onto the curb and into the Garden Gourmet Deli and Grill. Surveillance footage captured the dramatic aftermath, showing shattered windows and debris scattered outside the establishment.
"We just heard a huge brake. … All of a sudden, I saw a car flying and hit my store," said Khalid Sarsour, the 63-year-old owner of the deli, to The Post. Sarsour expressed distress over the incident, stating, "I don’t think I’ll be able to sleep because of some of the trauma."
Following the crash, the detective who was nearly struck assisted officers in apprehending the driver of the Mercedes. EMTs transported the driver of the Audi and a female passenger from the Mercedes to a local hospital, where they were reported to be in stable condition. No other injuries were reported. The New York Police Department is continuing its investigation into the incident.
