Menendez Brothers Appear in 1990s Basketball Card

A 1990-91 NBA Hoops trading card, featuring former New York Knicks point guard Mark Jackson, has gained attention for an unexpected detail in its background: Erik and Lyle Menendez. The brothers, who were convicted of murdering their parents, can be seen sitting courtside in the photograph.

Sports business analyst and memorabilia collector Darren Rovell displayed the framed card, calling it one of his favorite New York Knicks items. Rovell shared the find on "The Craig Carton Show," explaining that the photograph was taken after the Menendez brothers had committed their crimes. The brothers allegedly purchased the seats with funds from a life-insurance policy.

The card captures a game between the Los Angeles Clippers and the Knicks. Rovell noted the peculiar circumstance that the Menendez brothers were attending a public event after the murders.

Both Erik and Lyle Menendez are currently serving prison sentences of 50 years to life. They are seeking parole, with a hearing scheduled for March 2027, following a denial in 2025.

Rovell suggested that the discovery highlights the unpredictable nature of collecting sports memorabilia, emphasizing that one never knows what might appear in the background of an image.
