Men Filmed Stealing Pet Rabbit by Ears, Owner Reports
Two individuals were captured on security footage grabbing a family's rabbit named Peter from their garden and absconding with the animal.
Two men were recorded on camera allegedly grabbing a family's pet rabbit by its ears and taking it from their garden in Hull, east Yorkshire. The incident occurred around 5:18 p.m. on Saturday, October 17.
The owner, Amy Grace, 38, discovered the theft after returning from shopping with her son and checking her home's CCTV. The footage shows one man in a black winter coat bending down to pick up the rabbit, named Peter, by its ears, while a second man, wearing a leather jacket and hat, films the interaction.
Peter, a nine-year-old rabbit, appears to struggle while being held by his ears for over twenty seconds. Both men are then seen walking away with the rabbit, laughing.
Ms. Grace, who has owned Peter for eight years, expressed her distress on social media. She stated that Peter suffers from gut stasis and requires daily medication, and was particularly vulnerable. The rabbit had been temporarily housed in the front garden due to ongoing work in the back.
Following an extensive search by Ms. Grace and her children, Peter was later found abandoned in a car park on Sunday. A stranger contacted Ms. Grace with a video of the rabbit, and he has since been returned home. He is scheduled to undergo a veterinary examination to ensure his well-being.
Humberside Police have been contacted for comment regarding the incident.
