Melissa Rivers Recounts Celebrity Confrontation Over Fashion Police Comments

Melissa Rivers recalled an instance where a prominent actress confronted her at a party about comments made on the E! series "Fashion Police." Rivers, who co-hosted the show with her late mother, Joan Rivers, shared the story on the "McBride Rewind" podcast.

"I've had a big actress confront me at a party," Rivers stated. When asked about the interaction, she said, "I [was] just like, ‘I didn’t like your dress.'" Rivers did not identify the actress involved.

She also described an awkward encounter on a flight from Los Angeles to New York City with an actress they had previously critiqued on "Fashion Police." Rivers recounted that she and her mother were seated near the actress on the plane, who was unaware of their earlier comments about her attire. "We knew her. Hugs, chatting. She and my mom were reading the same book, and we’re sitting there going, ‘Oh s–t tonight she’s going to find out what we said about her dress,'" Melissa recalled.

Rivers defended the show's style, explaining that it was "built for entertainment" and designed "to be funny." She argued that audiences engage in similar critiques in private. "Everyone sits — to this day — and watches the shows and goes, ‘Oh my God, that’s amazing’ or ‘Oh my God, that’s horrible,'" Rivers said. "The difference was we did it out loud."

During her time on "Fashion Police," which aired from 2015 to 2017, Rivers also defended Giuliana Rancic's controversial 2015 remarks about Zendaya's hair, reiterating the show's focus on humor.

Even after the show concluded, Rivers has continued to offer fashion commentary, including sharing her opinions on Met Gala fashion and recent takes on style trends, such as her current aversion to miniskirts.
