Melissa Rivers Recounts Being Confronted by Actress Over Fashion Criticism

Melissa Rivers has shared an account of being confronted by a "big actress" at a party after making critical remarks about the celebrity's attire on the show "Fashion Police."

Rivers, who co-hosted the E! show with her late mother, Joan Rivers, from 2015 to 2017, detailed the incident on the "McBride Rewind" podcast. She recalled the actress approaching her and stating, "I didn’t like your dress."

While Rivers did not identify the actress, she described a subsequent encounter on a flight from Los Angeles to New York. She said an actress they had previously criticized for her outfit boarded the same plane. Rivers recounted that the actress engaged in friendly conversation with her and her mother, unaware that they had commented on her fashion choices.

"We knew her. Hugs, chatting. She and my mom were reading the same book, and we’re sitting there going, ‘Oh s–t tonight she’s going to find out what we said about her dress,'" Rivers said.

Rivers defended the show's premise, stating that "Fashion Police" was "built for entertainment" and "built to be funny." She argued that people often make similar judgments about fashion in private and that the show simply vocalized these common observations. "Everyone sits — to this day — and watches the shows and goes, ‘Oh my god, that’s amazing’ or ‘Oh my god, that’s horrible,'" she added. "The difference was we did it out loud."

She also referenced Giuliana Rancic’s controversial 2015 remarks about Zendaya's hair, noting that "Fashion Police" aimed to be humorous. Rivers continues to offer fashion commentary, recently sharing her opinions on miniskirts and celebrity outfits.
