Melissa McCarthy and Clive Owen Portray JonBenét Ramsey's Parents in New Netflix Drama

Netflix has released the first photograph of Melissa McCarthy and Clive Owen in character as Patsy and John Ramsey, the parents of JonBenét Ramsey, for the upcoming drama series "The Murder of JonBenét Ramsey."

McCarthy and Owen are seen as Patsy and John Ramsey in the newly released image. The series is described by Netflix as a dramatization of "one of the most infamous unsolved murder cases in American history," and it will also explore the "devastating personal and public reckoning that followed the death of JonBenét Ramsey."

The cast also includes Garrett Hedlund, Alison Pill, and Chris Bauer as the law enforcement officials investigating the crime.

For McCarthy, known for her comedic roles, this dramatic turn is a significant departure. She told Entertainment Tonight at the 2025 Golden Globes that the role has been "quite a challenge" and expressed empathy for the Ramsey family, stating, "my heart goes out to" them. McCarthy added that she believes the speculation surrounding the Ramsey family's involvement in JonBenét's death is akin to a "blood sport" and that she is "hoping we're giving [the family] their humanity, as well as telling the story." She expressed pride in the series.

JonBenét Ramsey was found murdered in her Boulder, Colorado, home on Christmas night in 1996 at the age of six. The case garnered intense media attention, with details such as JonBenét's participation in child beauty pageants becoming widely publicized.

The Ramsey family, who were affluent, faced scrutiny, and at various times, Patsy, John, and their son Burke were considered suspects. In 2019, Burke Ramsey settled a defamation lawsuit against CBS after a television series suggested his involvement.

Patsy Ramsey died of ovarian cancer in 2006 at the age of 49. John Ramsey is still alive and is 82 years old.

Pathologist and coroner Dr. Michael Baden, who consulted on the cold case, stated in 2016 that he believed the perpetrator was "someone in the household." However, in a November 2024 interview with The Post, Joe Berlinger, director of the Netflix documentary "Cold Case: Who Killed JonBenet Ramsey," expressed his conviction that the Ramsey family is innocent, attributing the case's unsolved status to the initial "mishandling" by local police.

"The Murder of JonBenét Ramsey" is scheduled to premiere on December 10 on Netflix.
