Melinda Culea, 'The A-Team' Star, Seen in Rare Los Angeles Outing
The actress, known for her role as Amy Allen, was spotted exercising in Los Angeles.
Melinda Culea, an actress recognized for her role in the 1980s hit series "The A-Team," was recently seen on a rare public outing in Los Angeles. Culea was photographed getting in some exercise earlier this week, wearing a dark shirt, zip-up hoodie, and purple sweatpants.
Culea is best known for her portrayal of Amy Allen, a newspaper reporter who joined the titular team, a group of former U.S. Army Special Forces soldiers falsely convicted of a crime committed during their time in Vietnam. While her role on the series was significant, her time on "The A-Team" was reportedly short-lived, spanning only the first two seasons. The show, which achieved pop-culture status, also starred George Peppard, Dirk Benedict, Dwight Schultz, and Mr. T.
According to reports, Culea's tenure on the show was marked by internal friction, with costar George Peppard allegedly objecting to the presence of a female character in a prominent role. Despite Culea's suggestions for her character's involvement, producers reportedly aligned with Peppard's sentiment. Amy Allen was subsequently written out of "The A-Team" midway through its second season.
Following her departure from "The A-Team," Culea continued to work in television throughout the 1980s and 1990s. She made guest appearances on shows such as "Fantasy Island," "Family Ties," and "St. Elsewhere." She also had a recurring role on the series "Glitter" from 1984 to 1985 and was part of the cast of "Knots Landing" from 1989 to 1990. In the mid-1990s, Culea starred as the stepmother of Joey Lawrence in the series "Brotherly Love," which aired from 1995 to 1997.
Beyond television, Culea had a notable role in the 1994 comedy "Wagons East." This film is also remembered as the final movie completed by actor John Candy before his death during principal photography. "Wagons East" was directed by Peter Markle, who later married Culea in 1996. Markle has directed episodes of television series including "The X-Files" and "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation."
Culea's last on-screen appearances were in 2001. In the years since, she has transitioned to a career as a writer and illustrator.
Her career in the entertainment industry began in 1981, establishing her as a familiar face on the small screen for two decades.
