Calum Sim, 26, appeared in Melbourne Magistrates' Court on Thursday, facing a charge of rape. The alleged offense occurred in July 2022 in Hawthorn, an inner-eastern suburb of Melbourne. Sim was 22 at the time of the alleged incident.
Victoria Police, specifically the Box Hill Sexual Offences and Child Abuse Investigation Team, investigated the allegation. Sim was charged on August 15 and appeared in court for the first time on Thursday, four years after the alleged offense. Details of the alleged rape have not yet been presented in court.
Magistrate Brett Sonnet granted Sim conditional bail. Conditions include notifying the lead investigator of any address changes within 48 hours and refraining from contacting prosecution witnesses. Sim is also required to reside at a specific address in Windsor, near the Chapel Street nightlife district, as part of his bail.
The prosecution has until September 26 to provide the brief of evidence to Sim and his legal team. The court granted media access to the charge, an application that was not opposed by either the defense or the prosecution.
Sim, who is known for his street-style photography and flamboyant social media presence, appeared in court wearing a jacket, pressed shirt, and suit pants. He remained silent during the 10-minute hearing.
The accusation has reportedly sent shockwaves through Melbourne's close-knit nightclub community. Sim also lists employment with a company serving the real estate industry. He is scheduled to appear in court again on November 6 for a committal mention.
