Melanie Sykes has shared a radiant update on her alopecia battle, posting glowing selfies on Instagram that showcase her shaven head. The 56-year-old TV presenter, who previously disclosed losing 'two thirds' of her hair, expressed a message of resilience and acceptance.
In her latest post, Sykes displayed her make-up free face in a series of photos, accompanied by the caption: 'Unwritten Me... #selfportrait #muse #amuse #light #autoimmune.' She has been candid about her experience with the condition, stating earlier this year that she is 'learning to live with loss' and 'counting her blessings.'
Sykes explained that while the hair remaining around her crown is all she has left, it is healthy. She acknowledged the need for headwear due to cold but emphasized her practice of gratitude as the key to happiness, a skill that requires daily effort. "It's not always easy to be grateful, but it is the key to happiness and takes daily, moment-to-moment practice. Practice love," she wrote.
The presenter also shared a positive health update to conclude 2025, revealing she was experiencing 'Post-Traumatic Growth.' She described herself as 'vibrating high' after 'transcending trauma' amid her ongoing battle with the autoimmune condition, which has also caused excessive inflammation across her body. Post-Traumatic Growth, Sykes noted, is the positive psychological change some individuals experience after a life crisis.
"Even the most difficult times do pass, they do, and I just want to use this term post traumatic growth, it's real, you can be suffering from PTSD but still at the same time be experiencing post traumatic growth," she explained. "I'm in both camps because you can be both things at once, as long as I attend to myself and what makes me happy and feel grief about whatever has gone on and process it and move on from it."
She concluded this sentiment by stating, "We can transcend all trauma, we can be changed, and I am living f******g proof of that!" She captioned the post: 'Hello you beautiful people, sharing my high vibes today, Love always, Melanie x.'
Sykes first offered insight into her hair loss in April 2025, showing a bald spot on her head and revealing she was investigating health issues. At that time, she disclosed experiencing alopecia and heart issues compounded by 'PTSD, shock, mistreatment and malpractice.'
Last year, Sykes urged fans not to worry about her health concerns, asserting that she has 'learnt to take of herself' and is 'healing.' She expressed contentment with her current state, stating, 'Life is so good, and I know it because I'm right here right now and there's nothing to fear. There is nothing to fear.'
She also indicated a preference for discussing topics other than her illness, stating, 'It's not like I'm hiding it, I'd just rather have a conversation about something else because I've got that down and I'm healing myself.' Sykes encouraged others to focus on their own well-being: 'Worry about yourselves, if anything, and I don't even mean worry about yourselves, I just mean attend to your own spiritual garden, yourself, your body, your mind, your creative spirit. Don't worry about me, I've got me, I've always got me, I've learned to really take care of myself in the last two years.'
