Melania Trump has successfully negotiated a localized cease-fire in the Ukrainian city of Oleshky, located in the Kherson region. The agreement, set to take effect on October 29, 2026, aims to facilitate the evacuation of civilians and the delivery of essential humanitarian aid to a population described as being on the brink of catastrophe.
In a statement, Trump highlighted the urgent needs of Oleshky's remaining residents, who are predominantly elderly and require immediate medical attention, food, and clean water. She emphasized the city's precarious situation, citing limited electricity, mined roads, and regular military attacks, stating that intervention was necessary to allow aid and evacuations.
The cease-fire is expected to allow approximately 1,700 to 2,000 residents, including around 50 children, to leave the city. Trump indicated that those wishing to evacuate would receive coordinated support and transportation to their chosen destinations, whether in Russia or Ukraine.
This effort marks a continuation of Trump's involvement in humanitarian issues related to the conflict. Previously, she has been involved in efforts to reunite Ukrainian and Russian children with their families, having facilitated the reunification of 34 children.
The notes also mention that envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, appointed by President Trump, have engaged with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin in attempts to secure a trilateral meeting for peace talks, as the conflict extends into its fourth year.
