First Lady Melania Trump appeared alongside President Donald Trump at the Freedom 250 Grand Prix in Washington, D.C., on Sunday. The appearance marks the second public engagement for Mrs. Trump this week. The first couple were observed in the presidential motorcade en route to the event.

Earlier in the week, Melania Trump held an event in the White House Rose Garden to announce a partnership with IndyCar and Fox Sports. The initiative aims to expand scholarship opportunities for youth aging out of the foster care system, with funding directed towards programs at Indiana University and Purdue University. During the Rose Garden event, she stated, "I heard you missed me. Here I am." This marked her first public appearance with President Trump in over a month, following their attendance at the FIFA World Cup final on July 19.

The Freedom 250 Grand Prix in Washington, D.C., was organized by IndyCar as part of the nation's semiquincentennial celebration. H.E. Mohammed Ben Sulayem, president of the FIA, remarked that the event commemorated "250 years of American achievement with a sport that embodies speed, ingenuity and the freedom of the open road." Ronan Morgan, president of the FIA Drivers' Commission, also praised the race as a fitting celebration of American motorsport traditions.

Over 140,000 spectators were anticipated to attend the event. The Freedom 250 Grand Prix weekend was established by President Trump as part of the yearlong observance of America's 250th anniversary.
