Melania Trump Hints at Strained Relationship With Son Barron
The former First Lady shared insights into her family life, suggesting her 20-year-old son prefers his own pursuits.
Melania Trump has offered a rare glimpse into her relationship with her son, Barron, hinting at potential growing tensions as he enters young adulthood. During an appearance on Fox Business’s The Big Money Show, the former First Lady suggested that Barron, 20, may not always welcome her attempts to spend time together.
When asked about balancing family time with her busy schedule, Melania Trump explained that scheduling is key. "It’s good to schedule, it’s always good because everybody’s so busy," she stated. She also acknowledged the challenges of coordinating family meals, noting that her husband, former President Donald Trump, often works late.
"My husband is working - sometimes he’s in the Oval Office until 9.30 at night, so do you wait [until then to] have dinner? You don’t. He’s busy, I’m busy too," she said. "It’s less and less family time, [and there's] suffering because of it. But that’s okay. We are here to work, to do a good job, and that’s what matters."
Regarding her son, she added, "Barron is already a young man, so sometimes he’s maybe even happy that I just want to do my stuff. And that’s okay." Barron is currently studying at New York University.
Recent reports have also highlighted Barron Trump's reclusive tendencies, which some attribute to security concerns surrounding his father. One source described him as "pretty reclusive" and noted he "doesn't go out." Despite this, he reportedly spent much of the summer with his mother at Trump National Golf Club Bedminster in New Jersey.
The security concerns stem from multiple threats, including at least three assassination attempts on Donald Trump and a recent video released by Iranian regime hardliners targeting Barron. He was also reportedly distressed by the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, a friend.
Melania Trump’s office has previously requested that coverage exclude details of Barron’s private life in light of recent threats.
Barron’s last public appearances included the FIFA World Cup 2026 final match and UFC fights held at the White House in June, both events with heightened security measures.
