Melania Trump faced accusations of being out of touch and exhibiting “Marie Antoinette vibes” after sharing a video showcasing the preparations for an upcoming White House state dinner. The video, posted on her personal and official FLOTUS X accounts, highlighted opulent decor for a dinner honoring Chinese President Xi Jinping.
The nine-second clip, largely in black and white, featured the caption, “Every detail considered. An experience thoughtfully conceived and exquisitely realized for our distinguished guests.”
Xi is scheduled to meet with President Trump the following week. Their discussions are expected to cover trade, the Iran war, artificial intelligence, and other key issues.
The first lady's post, however, struck a dissonant chord with some social media users who perceived it as tone-deaf given the ongoing cost-of-living crisis and Americans' concerns over rising inflation, gas, and grocery prices. The video's emphasis on lavish preparations drew a largely negative reaction online.
