Former First Lady Melania Trump issued a rare political statement on Tuesday, publicly voicing her support for the LGBTQIA+ community in the wake of a Supreme Court decision. The ruling upheld state bans on transgender athletes competing in women's sports.

Trump shared her stance on X, formerly Twitter, quoting her memoir where she stated she "fully" supports the "LGBTQIA+ community." She also added an emphasis on the need to "ensure that our female athletes are protected and respected."

Her statement directly referenced the Supreme Court's majority opinion, which affirmed that schools can maintain women's and girls' sports for biological females under Title IX and the Fourteenth Amendment's Equal Protection Clause.

"America, we can support the rights of the LGBTQIA+ community and also protect opportunities for female athletes," Trump concluded in her post. "Respect everyone and keep girls' sports fair. Both ideals are essential."
