Melania Trump Advisor: Former First Lady Brokered Ukraine Ceasefire
Marc Beckman stated Melania Trump's mediation efforts allowed humanitarian aid into Oleshky.
Former first lady Melania Trump helped broker a humanitarian ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine to allow emergency aid into the frontline town of Oleshky, according to her senior advisor, Marc Beckman.
Beckman told Fox News that the agreement followed weeks of mediation involving Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. He stated that Trump is redefining the role of first lady by focusing on action-oriented initiatives, asserting, "She's saving lives."
"Yesterday, she brokered — single-handedly brokered — a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine within the area of Oleshky," Beckman said on 'Fox & Friends Weekend.' He noted that Russia subsequently agreed to extend the planned ceasefire by two days and expand it to a broader area of Ukraine's Kherson region.
The first lady was motivated to negotiate the ceasefire to assist elderly residents trapped in the region, providing them time to evacuate and enabling humanitarian aid to reach those remaining. She described the situation in Oleshky as "dire," emphasizing the urgent need for medical care, medicine, food, and drinking water for the remaining elderly residents.
"The people of Oleshky have limited electricity, live amid mined roads, and endure regular military attacks," she said, according to a White House press release. "It was abundantly clear that without my intervention, the possibility to bring humanitarian aid into the city and to evacuate the elderly would be impossible."
Beckman explained that Trump's efforts built upon her previous humanitarian work, including negotiating the release of Ukrainian children from Russia since August 2025, which has facilitated the reunification of 34 children with their families through six separate exchanges. He added that she leveraged the relationships she fostered during these prior reunification efforts to bring all parties to the table for the ceasefire negotiations.
President Donald Trump also praised his wife's actions, stating, "I think she's done a great job. I mean, she's into saving babies and bringing babies back home to their parents, and she's been able to do something that's great."
Pope Leo XIV reportedly communicated with both Putin and Zelenskyy by phone to stress the importance of a humanitarian truce. The localized ceasefire in Oleshky was expected to commence on October 29, according to the White House. The agreement aims to create a window for aid delivery and the evacuation of vulnerable residents from the embattled town.
