Mekhi Becton Joins Packers Practice Squad
Former top-10 draft pick Mekhi Becton signs with Green Bay after being released by the Chargers.
Mekhi Becton, a former top-10 NFL draft pick who previously played for the New York Jets, is expected to sign with the Green Bay Packers' practice squad. Becton worked out for the Packers on Monday and will provide depth to their offensive line.
Becton was released by the Chargers in March. He had signed a two-year contract with the Los Angeles team in 2025 and started 14 games last season. Prior to that, Becton was the Eagles' starting right guard during their Super Bowl run. The Jets selected Becton 11th overall in the 2020 draft out of Louisville.
Becton's tenure with the Jets was hampered by injuries, as he appeared in only one game across the 2021 and 2022 seasons. According to reports, Becton is currently healthy and has undergone surgery for a labrum issue in his shoulder that he played through last season.
The Packers have been looking to reinforce their offensive line, which has had a challenging start to the 2026 season. Green Bay has also added Cordell Volson and Laken Tomlinson in an effort to bolster the unit. The Steelers had also reportedly shown interest in Becton.
Becton, who is listed at 6-foot-7 and weighs 345 pounds, has experience playing left tackle, right guard, and right tackle.
