Megyn Kelly has expressed significant concern over the physical appearance of singer Ariana Grande, describing her as "disturbingly thin" and questioning the absence of her parents and the priorities of her management team. Kelly voiced these opinions on her show, The Megyn Kelly Show, following the release of Grande's music video for "Petal."
Kelly suggested that Grande's team may be more focused on financial gain than on ensuring her health. "Where are her parents? Where are they to say, 'Honey, we love you. You have enough money. Your team around has made enough money. You need to take a step away,'" Kelly stated. She also criticized late-night comedian Bill Maher for making jokes about Grande's appearance.
Journalist Maureen Callahan, appearing on Kelly's show, agreed that the mainstream entertainment media has contributed by largely overlooking the situation or framing it as a debate about body shaming. Callahan argued that the conversation should focus on Grande's apparent need for help. "I actually think that Ariana, if she continues this way, will wind up like Britney. I just don't think she will live that much longer," Callahan said, drawing a parallel to Britney Spears' public struggles. She also invoked the late singer Karen Carpenter, who died at 32 from complications related to anorexia, suggesting Grande is on a similar "trajectory."
Callahan noted that while Grande's mother and brother, Frankie Grande, are reportedly in her life, she believes they, along with her management, could be held responsible if her health deteriorates further. "These people will all have blood on their hands if something happens to her," Callahan commented, adding, "She's a very, very, very sick young woman. She's very sick. She needs immediate help."
This is not the first time Kelly has commented on Grande's physique. In December, she called Grande's appearance "anorexic" during a discussion about the press tour for the upcoming movie-musical "Wicked," in which Grande stars alongside Cynthia Erivo, who also appeared thin.
Grande has previously addressed public comments about her weight, particularly on TikTok. She stated that the body people were comparing her current appearance to was actually her "unhealthiest version," a period when she was reportedly struggling with antidepressants, poor eating habits, and was at a "lowest point in my life." She has also expressed frustration with the societal comfort in commenting on others' appearances and health, asserting that she no longer leaves space for such commentary. She announced plans to step back from the spotlight after her "Eternal Sunshine" tour due to the intense scrutiny.
Grande's team did not immediately respond to requests for comment from the Daily Mail.
