Megyn Kelly has sharply criticized Democratic Sen. Jon Ossoff of Georgia for remarks made at a rally, which she characterized as "despicable" insinuations about President Trump and his executive assistant, Natalie Harp. Kelly argued on her SiriusXM show, "The Megyn Kelly Show," that Ossoff lacked evidence for his statements and suggested the senator was attempting to attack the president with baseless claims.
During a Sunday rally in Georgia, Ossoff commented on Trump's activities, stating, "He golfs and trades stocks. See, he doesn’t want to do the job. He wants to build his ballroom and travel with Natalie on their apparently defenseless flying palace." Kelly interpreted this as an insinuation of an affair between Trump and Harp, despite Ossoff not stating it explicitly.
"This guy decides to go with obviously the intimation. He doesn’t say it explicitly. Is clearly that they’re having an affair," Kelly said. "That’s just very clearly the intimation, right?"
Natalie Harp, 35, is President Trump's executive assistant and has been a close aide for years. She gained public attention after crediting Trump's support for the Right to Try law with saving her life. She worked directly for Trump after speaking at the 2020 Republican National Convention and has since become a visible figure at his side, assisting with his communications operations.
Kelly suggested that Ossoff's remarks were an attempt to position himself as a political brawler capable of confronting Trump. "He wanted to generate some buzz as a tough guy," Kelly stated. "I think this is Ossoff being like, ‘I’m a fighter. I can fight Trump. I fight below the belt just like he does.'"
Kelly further contended that Ossoff dodged questions about his remarks when pressed by Jen Psaki on MSNBC. In response to Psaki asking why he had singled out Harp, Ossoff described Trump as retreating into a "bubble of West Wing aides who are his security blanket." Kelly dismissed this explanation as a "dodge and a lie," insisting that Harp was deliberately mentioned for a reason.
Kelly also referenced Harp's presence alongside Trump during a security-related aircraft switch in Turkey, an event that had previously fueled speculation about who accompanied the president. However, she maintained that such instances did not justify suggesting a romantic relationship.
Kelly criticized Ossoff for not standing by his initial implication. "Whatever, double down!" Kelly urged. "If you’re gonna be this tough guy in the mold of Trump, this fighter, why don’t you just own what you said, sir? Go ahead, lean in. Let me hear you be the fighter."
Instead, Kelly accused the senator of "slinging mud" at Trump and Harp and then attempting to distance himself from the comments. "No, he just decided to sling mud against the president and, uh, Natalie — not to mention this is hurtful to Melania potentially — and then try to wipe his hands of it and pretend he didn’t do it," Kelly said.
Kelly predicted that this incident could negatively impact Ossoff if he pursues a presidential run. "I actually think this is — this is not a good mark for him, and I think it could come back to haunt him when he declares for president, as I think he will," she stated.
Additionally, Kelly commented on Ossoff's speaking style, comparing his cadence to that of former President Barack Obama and Oprah Winfrey. She suggested that he needs to develop a more authentic political persona if he intends to run for president.
The Post has sought comment from Ossoff and the White House regarding these remarks.
