Meghan Markle shared a glimpse of her life in California shortly before relocating to the United Kingdom with her family. A photo posted to the Duchess of Sussex's As Ever Instagram account showed Markle tending to her garden in Montecito.
The post, captioned "Soaking in the last of summer in the garden," featured Markle in a sun hat, picking vegetables. The comments section on the post was disabled.
Markle, Prince Harry, and their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, arrived in the UK last Wednesday. The family reportedly traveled on a private jet from California, a choice a source indicated was made to allow them to travel with their dogs. The flight is reported to have cost approximately $12,000 per hour.
This move marks an extended period in Britain for the couple, who stepped down from royal duties six years prior and relocated to North America. Prince Harry's father, King Charles III, was reportedly informed of the move days before it became public.
Sources suggest the family's return is partly to be closer to King Charles, who is undergoing cancer treatment, and to foster stronger relationships between the children and their extended family in the UK. Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet are expected to begin school in England next week.
The couple will reside in a non-royal residence while in the UK, where they intend to continue their business ventures.
