Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are reportedly planning a return to the United Kingdom, a move that sources suggest was partly motivated by a potential acting role for the Duchess. However, it has now emerged that a rumored offer for Meghan to star in Guy Ritchie's Netflix series 'The Gentlemen' has been withdrawn.
The couple, who have lived in the United States for six years, are said to be days away from returning to Britain. While initial speculation pointed to improved relations with King Charles following a meeting last month as a primary driver, reports indicate that developments in Meghan's acting career played a significant role.
A source told The Times that "the stars aligned" with "perfect timing in terms of the children's schooling, there appeared to be a good acting opportunity here [for Meghan], and also the draw of family." This included a desire to be closer to King Charles and other members of the royal family with whom Harry maintains close ties, such as his mother's family, the Spencers.
Despite these reported career motivations, the opportunity for Meghan to appear in 'The Gentlemen' appears to have fallen through. According to former Vanity Fair editor Tina Brown, the withdrawal of this offer may be linked to a "backlash" surrounding the Sussexes' potential return, including concerns about security costs.
Meghan had reportedly been holding out for a specific role, and the prospect of appearing in Ritchie's show, which was slated to begin production this autumn, was seen as a significant development. The series was rumored to feature her as the "ultimate temptress."
Amidst these developments, there is speculation that the Sussexes' stay in the UK might be temporary, with potential plans to relocate to Canada or Australia after a few months. During their recent visit to Althorp, the Spencer family estate, Harry and his children were seen walking the grounds, and photographs of their visit were shared on social media. While some reports suggested Charles Spencer might offer the couple a home on his estate, a source close to the Earl denied this, stating that Harry had made his own plans.
The Sussexes are understood to have identified a property in the Cotswolds as their potential UK residence. The reported tension between Prince Harry and his brother, Prince William, remains, with sources indicating William has no desire for reconciliation at this time. The Prince and Princess of Wales are currently on holiday with their children at Balmoral, joining other royals for their annual summer break. King Charles was also photographed near Balmoral, with reports suggesting he may have been discussing Harry's return.
