Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, previously expressed significant concerns regarding the privacy of her children attending school in the United Kingdom, citing worries about paparazzi. These sentiments were shared in a 2022 interview with The Cut, where she stated, “Sorry, I have a problem with that,” and added, “That doesn’t make me obsessed with privacy. That makes me a strong and good parent protecting my child.”
During the same interview, the Duchess accompanied the article's author, Allison P. Davis, to pick up her son, Prince Archie, then 7 years old, from preschool in Montecito, California. Davis observed that Markle was able to collect her son without any press present, encountering only a few fellow mothers who offered surprised glances.
In contrast to these past concerns, Prince Harry recently spoke positively about schools in the UK. Speaking with singer Joss Stone at the WellChild Awards in London, Harry reportedly praised the UK's educational institutions and emphasized the importance of community for children's development. Stone shared with Hello! magazine that Harry was discussing how "wonderful the schools are here and how important community is for children."
Page Six confirmed on Wednesday that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are expected to move back to the UK for an extended period, with their children, Archie and Princess Lilibet, anticipated to attend school there. An insider indicated that King Charles III was informed of the plan over the weekend and is looking forward to spending time with the family. This move reportedly does not alter Harry and Meghan's status as non-working members of the royal family. The same source suggested that King Charles III is a primary reason for their return.
According to The US Sun, the couple is expected to reside in a non-royal residence while continuing their business ventures. Harry and Markle stepped back from their royal duties and relocated to California in January 2020. They have since spoken about their experiences with the royal family, including in a 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey where Markle alleged a lack of protection and concerns within the family about the skin tone of their first child. Harry also detailed his experiences in his 2023 memoir, "Spare."
