Meghan Markle's Father and Half-Sister Reignite Public Feud With New Allegations
Thomas Markle Sr. and Samantha Markle have reportedly made fresh claims about their estrangement from the Duchess of Sussex.
The long-standing public dispute involving Meghan Markle's father and half-sister has reportedly escalated with new allegations surfacing. Thomas Markle Sr. and Samantha Markle have made further claims about their strained relationships with the Duchess of Sussex, adding a new chapter to the ongoing family feud. The Royal Family is often depicted as dysfunctional, but the Markle family's public disputes have drawn significant attention.
Samantha Markle, speaking to Radar Online, reportedly stated that she and their father felt hurt by Meghan's perceived lack of emotional and financial support since she rose to fame. The Duchess's father, Thomas Markle Sr., was notably absent from her wedding to Prince Harry in May 2018, citing recovery from heart surgery. Even as the wedding took place, the relationship between Meghan and her "other" family was described as difficult.
Samantha also reportedly commented on Meghan's wedding attire, suggesting that if she could afford an expensive dress, she could also afford to support her father. She further added that the royal family would likely be appalled by how Meghan has treated her own family.
In a March 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey, Meghan stated that she had essentially been raised as an only child and had limited contact with Samantha, seeing her only a few times. She also shared with Winfrey that she felt she had "lost" her father.
Thomas Markle Sr. has had a reportedly turbulent relationship with his younger daughter, Meghan. Last December, he was recovering in a hospital bed in the Philippines after surgery.
Earlier in 2018, after Meghan announced that British police had warned her about pedophilia-related allegations concerning her father, sources close to the Duchess suggested this would help people understand her reasons for distancing herself from him. Thomas Markle Jr., an ex-window fitter, has also been publicly critical of his half-sister, though less frequently than Samantha.
